I've noticed lately that Ecogamer has been getting alot of spam attacks. Is anything being done about this?

Thanks.

Regular staff members have been deleting threads + reporting users to be banned.
As for what's being done at a higher level, I've pointed this thread out to Anthony, he should respond soon.

Hi.

The staff is aware of this, and we're sorry that you might have seen some spam when clicking on a thread. We're looking into the problem and in the meantime, just ignore the spam threads and they will usually be gone within a couple of hours. If a post really offends you, you can click on the report button at the bottom of the thread which will beep all of the mods.

Regards

Is it possible to get some more mods? I'm sure the regulars wouldn't mind deleting spam threads when they see them.

Hi

Is it a real problem? The spam posts don't seem to live on the boards for more than a couple of hours at most - most of the time its gone within the hour.

Regards

I think it is a problem too.

I have seen the same stuff still up after I go to sleep and wake up the next day.  So it looks to me like the moderators could use some help.

I will put my hand up to delete spam threads, but I have no time for any greater involvement.

Its not the same stuff. The same posts are being recreated. I am doing IP bans on entire IP ranges and its not stopping them. Im going to have to fix this with an update to the forum software, which means updating the site->forum bridge software, which means updating the site itself. Which may lead to further updates if anything else breaks.

I dont feel like spending my long weekend doing that. The site would need to go down and Im up for an entire days work. Not looking forward to it. Itll get done some time though.

take ur time anthony, this site is a hobby and passion there's no need for you to sacrifice any more than you should need to, just the stupid forum spam kills the forum activity updates which seriously makes it almost pointless as half of those are spam attacks

I have. As I said the only way to stop it is to upgrade the forum to a more secure version.

I had a similar problem on a forum I had running for a while. It also could have been solved by a forum upgrade, however I wasn't willing to pay for it.

I noticed that all the spam threads were being created in the first forum section, so I just created a new section, moved everything to that and changed the title of the first section to 'Spam here please' and all the spam went there.

All the spam is ending up in the Introductions section on Ecogamer isn't it?

Its died down considerably now and Im not so concerned. The odd couple of spam a day which is easily deleted. Before the upgrade we were getting them in 20-30 lots every few hours.
