When I was in JB today I was offered a gift card ($99) instead of Batman, after the games came from the Trade 3 for 1 deal.

Was this a mistake?  Has anyone used the trade deal to get a gift card?

Did you end up getting Batman for $99?

Maybe they were out of stock.

Yeah, I picked up Batman, they had heaps of stock.

In hindsight I should have taken the voucher, just in case it was a one of chance...

Well when the trade in deal was for MK Wii a while ago, I traded in 2 games and they didn't have any copies of Mario Kart Wii, so they offered me either a gift card or just a reciept to bring back in to get MK Wii.

Should have gone with the gift card, as I only got MK Wii to sell online (paid $25 for the 2 games, ended up selling for $78, but still).

I'm guessing they just offer gift cards if it's not out yet/if there's no stock.

You can not trade in 3 for 1 when the games not out yet. They do not allow, it's store policy.

You need to go in on the day of release to do the trade deal.

I tried today, JB refused. They'd run out of Batman, and still wouldn't do gift card. They only offered to let me know when it comes in.

I asked for in-store credit last night instead of the game, alas they would only give me the trade value of the games I traded... No... Thanks... Wink

But I then wandered into another JB and exchanged AA for a game I wanted... Fallout 3...

Noice!

Answer to the OP: Yes to all states except NSW, and they will only give you the value of the original game trades. They will give you the value of the new game if they are new or dont know how it works.

Read their Trade in Disclaimer and see for yourself:
http://www.jbhifi.com.au/games/disclaimers/

Their T&C's are bit ambiguous if you ask me, and not all JB's follow the same policy, it really depends on the person serving you.

This is key... I got served by a real grump the other night and would not play ball, straight down the line..

But today, I had my daughter asleep in the pram with me and the chick behind the counter was coo-ing at her, I could have cleared the store out after that... Was quite agreeable Wink

Definitely a bit of personal engineering(there's another phrase for it) to be done...
