Tell 'em They're Dreamin' is a new weekly feature designed for all those moments when you've wondered and had to ask yourself if a store was dreaming when they priced a particular item or bundle. It is an opportunity to tell the world about the bad deals and ridiculous prices you've seen and have some laughs over them. Drop by the forum discussion to participate and link to any photos if you have them.
Have you come across any bad deals lately? Spotted any on the site or out in the wild?

Until recently, the Game Traders at Eastland kept Virtua Fighter 5 PS3 at $110 and had a 'special' with $20 off even though everywhere else pretty much retails at less than half that. But now they've got it together and have it at $24, took long enough

EB Games Morely in WA have a copy of MGS2: Substance on XBox for $100... Supposedly not pre-owned either (although it was in the pre-owned bin).

Haha, Yay- you used my suiggestion for the name...
Anyways - a few weeks ago when EB had their 50% off sale they had games like COD 4 marked as $110 but the great big 50% off sticker across it. ? I pointed out to them that the weeks prior to the sale they were actually selling it for $54.95 in store....and therefor they should be selling it for $54.95 - 50%, to which they responded 'Sorry it's 50% off the 'Marked Price'. ? So in reality they were still selling the game at the same price it was availlable before the sale - but were just trying to catch people out - by putting out the older copies on the shelf that still had their $109.95 price stickers on them. ? ? Needless to ay I went elsewhere to buy the game....... and guess what AFTER the sale - went back in to EB and suprise suprise the stickered price on the COD 4 games were all $54.95....

At Westfield upstairs EB, Guitar Hero 3 bundles are somehow STILL $170 while GHM and GHWT Guitar bundles were around $99 now. Also caught an unlucky to be true bargain when i saw that a preowned GHWT was listed at $74 with 50% off AND had a 'includes guitar' sticker, but was eventually seen as a mistake and their actual pricing for them preowned is still foolishly $144

YOu should write in to the ACCC about that - that's illegal. If a retailer advises "X off" or "Save X" it's a legal obligation for the "off/save" statement to be from the last price. Then also, the price must return to the original price for at least 4 weeks before they can discount it again. EBs gets away with so many shoddy pricing practices, it's not funny.

THQ has set the price of Red Faction Guerilla Warfare to be pegged at the equivalent of $99.95 AUD on Impulse for Aussie residents, despite impulse only ever charging in USD. What makes it worse is that you could see the US price of $40 USD on the front page for a while when they highlighted it for a US sale.
Good luck THQ, if I'm not stupid enough to buy a physical copy for RRP then theres absolutely no way that I'm going to pay the same for the digital copy.

$70 for Stranglehold PS3 (price includes $30 off) at EB.
You'd find it hard to pay more than $30 anywhere online.

You're right, they have been doing that forever yet no one ever calls them out on it. You go in, see the prices and laugh thinking who is dumb enough to pay some of these prices... but obviously people are falling for it or EB wouldn't keep doing it. Unfortunately I guess the general public aren't that bright.
