Hi everyone,

I was wondering on what you guys think would be the best way to connect to the internet for the DS. I've had a look at the JB catalogue and the Wi-Fi usb connector is selling for $44, but I'm no really sure how well that works. I'm not sure whether I should try that out, or get a wireless router.

Thanks guys

A wireless router. You wont need to turn your computer one, be hassled when the thing decides to fail and youll be prepared when you decide to get something else which uses WiFi like a laptop.

Unfortunately, the router option has the disadvantage of needing to be left open.
DS consoles only support WEP encryption, which has been deprecated as it is easily cracked.

The USB connector is inconvenient, but secure.

True, but MAC filtering, firewalls and artifically reducing signal strenth should help keep things moderately secure. Unless you live in building with other apartments/dorms its nothing to worry about.

Is the brand of a particular router important? I'm trying to find a router that isn't too costly (that's where the price of the USB connector is not too bad) but I'm finding varying prices. There's some below $80, some above $100 and some nearing $200.

Ive bought many routers and modems. My experience with DLink and Billion has been very poor. So far none of their products Ive purchased have worked as they should. My Linksys is the only one Im happy with and thats using hacked firmware, not exactly up your alley.

But your overall reccommendation is to get a router, right?

definetely worth spending the extra $20 or so to get a router. Ive found the Billions to be the best in the past, atm ive got a belkin  and it seems ok for the price.

I recently considered the same thing, and ended up picking up a Linksys WRT54G2 at Officeworks for $58.
I figured that for an extra $14, I get a wireless network so I can internets in my room on my netbook.
I've only tried WiFi a few times, but when I'm sitting next to the computer it works a treat. The DS doesn't pick up the signal in my room even though my laptop does; and my room is about... 20m away with 3 or 4 walls in between.
