Now I'm in no hurry to purchase a PS3, but would like a really good price or deal. So I'm pretty much posting for advice...
I'm wanting to purchase this before my bf's birthday in October, so I'd thought I would start researching now.

Currently on Lasoo:
BigW: $648.00 (save $40) console only (ends 15 July)
Dick Smith $672.00 with Bonus Infamous Game (ends 30 June)

Previous PS3 deals
Harvey Norman $688.00 console with Infamous PS3 And Legendary PS3 (ended today 28 June) 80 GB
Harvey Norman $688.00 bundle With Gran Turismo 5 Prologue PS3 And Driving Force  (ended today 28 June) 160GB

Possibly a stupid question.. what is the advantages of having 160GB to 80GB? Would one really need the extra 80GB?

Where else can I look online?

Thanks for any replies!
Dianne

There are some cheap deals with ps3 ebay that comes with games, never brought one so I dunno the condition they will come in but if 2nd hand is an option you could try there, prices on ebay will usually be cheaper

i also hear sony might be cutting the price of ps3 soon, or at least the industry is trying to bet it is, it might be best to wait awhile

regarding harddrive space, 80gigs is alot of room, however if ur bf will use the ps3 alot i.e. dl alot of games, install a large number of games and dlc then it'll probably be good enough to fit around 10-20 games library, you could always load divx movies with the ps3 on an external usb harddisk or install a larger harddisk urself so if pricing is a big difference probably go with the cheaper

If you pay around $688 + a game or 2, this about the retail market price.

You can get overseas Japanese models for about $550 in both black + white.

In regards to your HD space question, you can actually replace the hard drive with a bigger one. Its really easy, so if u get the chance buy a cheap 40GB model and replace the hard drive to save a few $$$. Theres no difference between the 40, 80 or 160 models. besides the HD space.

The other difference is that the 40 and 60 come with a sixaxis controller and all the new ones come with the DS3

One other difference, (and the main reason to go for a 60 gig console if you can find one) is that the 60gig PS3's are backwards compatible with most PS2 games and (now) many PS 1 games... if your boyfriend has a lot of older games from the PlayStation 2 it may be worth considering that 60gig model... but it's only available 2nd hand nowadays.
