So anyway, does your Gamerscore and Achievements change the way you play games? I seem to complete more games than I used to and I think that Gamerscore has a bit to do with it...

Other than when Halo 3 was my only game and I didnt have anything better to do, I havent deliberately tried to get an achievment. Literally couldnt care any less.
I find it a good indicator if someone is a cheat or very aggressive player though. "Underground" game zone plus a gamerscore <1000 tells me someone has just made a new account either to cheat, or because their old account was banned for cheating. Or both.

As I do not use Live (or.. should we call it NXE now?) for anything other than occasionally checking to confirm there is nothing on there of interest, Gamer Score is essentially pointless.
Having said that, "Achievements" do hold a certain attraction to me, if they are something that can make you think about how you are playing. They have nothing to do with my decision to buy or play a game. Most of the time They are not even considered until I have been playing a game and the intrusive and annoying "Achievement Unlocked" pop-u interrupts me.
At that point, at the next change the game lets me, I usually go into the Achievements to take a quick look at what is there. If something sounds interesting in a way that could make playing the game more interesting, I will usually keep thim in mind while playing.
Of the 20 or so games I have played, there is only 3 I think that have 1000gs. None of them I actually set out to 1000, its just something that happend while playing. Iwill never set out to 1000 a game. Mostly because the achievements required to do so are either uninteresting, or Based on Online play, which also has no interest for me.

I have found that the introduction of Trophies to PS3 has made me go back to games that I otherwise may not. Current case for me is GTA4 - although I have completed the main storyline, I'm slowly working my way through the side quests. I certainly would not have done this if there were no trophies, but I'm also getting more enjoyment out the game.
The jury is out for me as to whether I look up what I have to do to get trophies on the internets, or whether I leave it to fate. I mean I'm loving the serendipity of getting trophies. Just having fun in the game, then a message appears that you have done something special and have been awarded a trophy for all to see - makes me feel good. But I hate finishing a game and finding out I was a within a gnats of getting a trophy, now I'll have to play all over again to get it - pisses me off.
Microsoft are to be commended on delivering such a cool spin on gaming - and Sony for copying it.

What does the 'Underground' zone in particular mean that indicates that to you? I mean, people could just be starting their first gamertag and choose underground?

There are also some people out there who just play Halo. Lots and lots of Halo. And not even the single player stuff.
I can't criticise, I spent 2 years playing multiple games of DotA each night (on a LAN) while at uni... Never really liked single player Warcraft III, although I did play most of it.

I dont really see the point about either unless they unlock something, like in MGS4 or TF2.

At this point of time since I've only had the Xbox360 for less than a week, nah, I don't go out of my way to try to get them.
But I'm sure that will change in the future though...I love the GTA-type Sandbox games and I do get a lot of enjoyment out of the GTA series outside of the main storyline because there are so many things to do!

Achievements are usually pointless or easily obtained. Too much gamerscore is a bad thing. I tend to think of people with huge gamerscores as "one of those guys".
But a challenging achievement often adds value to a game. And some of those challenges are respected, eg: score/survive to 1 mil in geo wars.

When trophies came out for GTA4, it got me playing it again - once more through the story mode, and then I spent many hours getting as many trophies from the side missions etcetc.
This way,I definately got my money's worth out of the game

Achievements for me, adds replay value for me. I got my 360 when i finished yr12 so now I have all the free time in the world, well until uni. I can finish a game in 4 days. So getting all of the achievements (trying to get 53 694 zombies in Dead Rising) definately streches the game.

i like achievments. it gives games a competitive edge and rewards you for doing extra things and improving on what you do

Some achievements are enjoyable and worth it, such as COD4's veteran achievements but games that are really bad and have achievements that are deliberately put there to lengthen the game or pointless achievements like "start the game" is just bad developing
Currently at 6800GS and over 300 achievements, don't play it very often

if it wasn't for achievements i wouldn't play a game such as killzone 2 after completing single player. makes it more interesting. But other than that for little things i don't care about. the ps3 number of trophies and xbox score i couldn't care less about.

Never been one to chase gamerscore. I suppose seeing 5\200 has made me play my XBLA games a little more, and I did look up an FAQ to get a few in banjo N&B, but I'd not say I'm a whore\go getter in any way really.
The Team Fortress 2 achievements are awesome, and now they're unfortunately not linked to unlockables the appeal is a tad less, but I love the game so much I think it will still be fun to try to get a specific one every now and then.
