There are a lot of games available for download through the various systems online marketplaces and stores, and I am a huge fan of the service. A big reason is convienience - I like turning on a console and playing a game without having to get up and change the disc. I like the variety of games that are on offer, especially on Nintendo's Virtual Console, and I think many represent excellent value for money.

So with that in mind, I'm interested to know what people think is the best way to spend 3000 Wii or Microsoft points, or $45-$50 on PSN.

On the Wii I couldn't go past
1) Sin and Punishment (N64) - 1000
2) R-Type (TG-16) - 800
3) Legend of Zelda (NES) - 500
4) Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - 500

... 200 points left over (bugger).

Just so you know, Sin & Punishment is actually 1200 points because Nintendo went to the effort of actually translating the menus into English. Meaning that list works out to 3000 exactly.

The Virtual Console is fantastic value and just a great service, cause it give me and others (who havn't played those older systems) a change to play some great games.

I have 13 VC titles.

But if I was to recommend 3000 points worth of games.  They would be the following titles:

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) - 1000 points
Alex Kidd in Miracle World (MS) - 500 points
Megaman 2 (NES) - 500 points
Kirby's Adventure (NES) - 500 points
Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES) - 500 points

Also other highly recommened titles are Mario Kart 64, Zelda: Link to the Past and Super Metroid.

The best ive spent Microsoft points on were:

Castlevania: Symphony of the night - 800
Metal slug 3 - 800
puzzle quest - 1200

I love the first 2. Fantastic games

Kirbys Adventure is a bargain. Personally I have Bomberman 93, Kirby, Wave Race 64, Sin & Punishment and Link to the Past. I hear the new bomberman is 8 player both online and locally, sounds like a good one.

Mario RPG is on there too now. Im keeping my points for when Secret of Mana eventually makes it.

On XBLA, I dunno. Ikaruga and Rez are awesome.

Ahh, Ikaruga and Rez - why did the Dreamcast "fail"? It had so many great games.

I recommend the challenging Bionic Commando Rearmed and Pixel Junk Monsters on PSN.
