Outland Xbox live Arcade Review
Finally got around to playing outland, this week and i was surprised by the amount of fun that was to be had. The old school platformer challenges and light / dark mechanic is well placed, leaving a distinctive metroid / castlevania feel about the game.
Graphics: 9/10 If you're every played LIMBO then you'll be right at home with the art style, composing mostly of a black with bold colors to highlight visual elements. This game is beautiful, almost a work of art. Absolutely no problems with the graphics, but this should be expected with a 2D platformer.
Sound: ??/10 To be honest i was so engrossed in the game, i have totally forgotten what it sounded like. (

) In saying that it must have been good because i was never removed from the mood while playing the game.
Gameplay: 10/10 If only every game had the smooth controls and imagination this game has! The light/dark mechanic is a amazing way of bring a bit of spice to a old genre and revive the lack of great 2D platformers on the marketplace. During i did find that, i did die a lot but this was mostly due to my lack of skills then the difficulty of the game.
Final Thoughts: I paid 800MSP for this about 6 months ago didn't play it until about 4 days ago. It's a shame that i waited so long to play this awesome game. The only downer that i can think of is that the game was fairly short, i finished the whole game in under 5 hours. That was without rushing and collecting as much as i could.
What is this game worth? 800MSP ($13.20 AUD) yes, Place it on your must buy list.
