It is a huge shame

does anyone know if we order it from overseas, customs will open it and not give  it to us?

I'm guessing it will be another Left 4 Dead 2 fiasco. The number of people importing that game actually put it on customs radar and they were fining people for it. Import stores caught on and started to label them as PC DVDs instead of putting the game name on it. Worked for most people but there are stories of people copping fines and never getting their game.

Importing something in a unique shaped box could be harder to get past customs than Left 4 Dead.

what you do is get them to send you electronics like a dvd player, toaster, set-top box, then get them to unscrew the electronic and put the disc inside. also putting it in furniture works too. i've seen this stuff in boarder security.

Yes. At the checkout stage at zavvi.com after you enter your postal address, underneath the "Giftwrap this item" checkbox there's another checkbox that says "Have the disc from this item hidden inside a larger, more expensive piece of electrical equipment". What you want to do is tick THAT box, and then the above works.

Hi guys

This might be a noob question but I'll ask anyway

If we manage to import the game from zavvi (UK) for Mortal Kombat to Australia.

Can we play against other Australian players? given that we won't have Australian server for Mortal Kombat??

Cheers

Wouldn't the fact that you've seen this on "Border Security" kinda indicate to you that this is a plan that doesn't work?

it'd be like trying to import drugs into other countries inside of Deloreans... if it didn't work for the first guy that did it (and it got publicity) it'll have to work now!!!

this really sucks i think the aus govt. is an xbox fan boi! you wont ever see them ban CoD or Halo.... (remember the airport shooting in MW2). I think CoD is worse cos ppl can get guns and shoot ppl in airports. but like u can't do fatalities in reallife!

this is cos ps3 got kratos and xbox got nuttin, so the aus govt got jealous and baned it

conspiricy feory guys

Modern Warfare 2 got released AFTER the actual real life airport shooting in Russia though. Certainly can't pre-empt that sort of real-life scenario and banning a game because of it...if the shooting happened first, it may have been a different story altogether. By that logic, many many games would be banned because you could pick up a gun and go shoot someone! The anti-gaming lobbyists and censors love using this as an excuse to call for the ban of games because they "corrupt" society.

Surely, for those of us who watch Border Security, we know that they pretty much X-ray every parcel that comes into Australia? Though who knows whether a disc would show up in a random piece of electronics. Not really worth the effort...or any trouble that will cause if one gets caught.

Oh, come on. Let's think which is more feasible for successfully getting a DVD smuggled into Australia

1. The objectionable DVD being taken out of the objectionable case, placed in another case [Daxter's Long Division Madness] and posted in as a game OR
2. The objectionable DVD being taken out of the objectionable case, then placed inside the wiring of a stereo system and then reassembled, posted as bulky electronics

It's the stereo, every time.

Let's see what happens with the appeal before we do anything.

I don't think there should be any need to worry.  It's a game series in no way based in reality so they should be able to get it re-assessed like AvP.  I suppose the stumbling block Mortal Kombat may face is that the fatalities are entirely dependant on players actively performing a move in order for the extreme gore to happen.

Hmmm... ah well.. as long as they don't wuss out and give us a censored version we'll be right.

We do really need to hurry up and get an R18+ rating though.

Thats what I dont get, all these games where people COULD reenact it in real life (shoot people with guns) GTA, CoD etc. are not banned... but two dude fighting/shooting projectiles, turning into skeletons, juggliing someone with punches and kicks, fatalities.... all these CANT be reenacted in real life.... so why ban there fantasy games and not the REAL shooting ones? you know why? cos the Ozzie rating board are full of 40 year old obeast CoD/Halo Xbox fanboiz.
