hey ecogamers, just thinking about the pricing of the latest nintendo handheld and found some interesting info/rumor/hearsay but it would be good to hear some opinions from our savvy ecogamers about this.

Revealed: The REAL 3DS price Nintendo doesn't want you to know

http://www.gamesradar.com/3ds/nintendo-3ds/news/revealed-the-real-3ds-price-nintendo-doesnt-want-you-to-know/a-2011012095735809004/g-20100616102754448006

-sold to retailers at base price of 173gbp
"But the fact is, anyone charging 230gbp at launch is taking a nice big 33 per cent mark-up, " (230 / 173 = 1.33)

so 350 AUD RRP,
and 230 GPB RRP,
but is sold to retailers at base price of  173 GBP

350aud / 230gbp = 1.52

173 gbp x 1.52 = 263.26aud

therefore base price retailers buy 3ds from nintendo is 263.26aud Huh?
sounds kinda in the ball park since america gets theirs for 250usd

If the data is correct, then Australian retailers are also having the 33 per cent mark up of the price purchased for a Nintendo 3DS (RRP of AUD$350, purchase point of AUD$265).

That's not too bad, considering. Frankly, I'm surprised that we're not being charged more, given that the 3DS system is going to sell in huge quantities on release date and over the course of the first week/month.

I recall the DSi and DSi XL being priced at around AUD$299 when they were first released, so AUD$350 for the 3DS seems pretty decent, with prices likely to drop after a while (or better bundle deals once sales start lagging).

This is quite interesting news. 3DS price drop incoming and guess what the new RRP is going to be ?Smiley

http://www.vooks.net/story-20327-Nintendo-3DS-receives-a-massive-price-drop-worldwide-Australia-included.html

"Nintendo announces that effective 12 August, Nintendo 3DS will be available for only SRP AU$249.95*. Previously Nintendo 3DS was SRP AU $349.95."

AU$249.95 ~ 263.26aud sounds familiar to what posted 5 months ago doesnt it.
this represents a 30% drop since launch 4 months ago.
moral of the story ? never buy any console within 4 months of launch, just wait for a 30% reduction after 4 months will be the strategy if i want Wii U ;p

Its not all bad news for early adopters of the 3ds they get to download 10 NES games and 10 GBA games for free.

To be honest, I paid around the $260 pricepoint for my 3DS on launch day, so the addition of 10 NES and GBA games is a win for me Cheesy

I think it would be around $260-$270, considering GAME trades it in for $240 and ebgames trades it for $210 (not including edge+). It makes sense for them to offer less than their cost price with a room for margin.

With JB selling it at $299 at launch with Accessories, after GST and some profit, I am not surprise if it's true.

Another thing about the 3DS is that they never released the RED one, my guess is they saved it for a bundle with mario kart 3d and maybe a green one to be bundled for Luigi Mansion. Christmas time, price point at $299 (Game + Console).

I'm happy with the free downloads, but in all honesty, I doubt I would be playing a lot of them. Would have been better if they allowed us a choice of what we could download (Pokemon Red! Pokemon Blue! Win-win for me!) but I guess that would never have happened.

Any where I can find the full list of games offered for free? And if anyone knows how the eshop works? Tied to the console or base on account?

Oh and I also want to ask if the region lock apply to older, non 3d games, cause I have tons of them from play asia. And is there anyway to bypass the region lock yet?

I thought the exact same thing. The 3DS is much better then I was expecting, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's closer to $250 instead of the initial $200 I assumed before E3.
