I too am looking out for NBA Jam.
It is listed on the GAME website as having a release date of 14/10/2010. Also it is $69.
http://www.game.com.au/nba-jam/nintendo-wii/NBAJAMWII

EBGames still says TBC (and $78)
No sign of it on Jb hifi, ozgameshop. *edit* Zavvi has it for GBP29.95 and released 8/10/10

I really expected it to fall into a lower price category... seeing as though it's basically a remake of a 1993 arcade game.

Think of it this way, if you get NBA Jam, then you won't be able to have James, Wade and Bosh on the field at the same time. However, in saying that, I'd prefer Jam over 2k11.

I'm really looking forward to NBA JAM and will definitely pick it up this week. Pretty much all the reviews are positive with the main gripe being no online. I think it would be nice, but I'm not going to wait for the 360 version. Love the art style and the commentary from what I have seen and the gameplay looks exactly as I remember it. Theoretically I could pull out my Mega Drive for a game...

I played the NBA 2K11 demo and enjoyed it. It's been a while since I played a sim so I wasn't very good, but it looks great and is getting some really great reviews. If I had more time I would probably get into it, but given all the stuff I still have to play I think JAM will satisfy my hoops needs. I don't think you can go wrong with either and to be honest, they're different enough that you could probably get both and be happy.

Yeah, NBA JAM was set to be packed in with NBA ELITE as a stripped down version with fewer game modes. However, ELITE has now been delayed and NBA JAM will now be released as a standalone version for 360/PS3. Not sure on the price at this stage, but I'd get the 360/PS3 version. Waving the Wii remote to dunk has limited appeal.

The Wii version can actually be played using 3 different controller schemes. Wiimote and nunchuck, flipping the wiimote on its side as a joypad or the classic controller. I'm a huge fan of the original and was lucky to have had a chance to play it my friends house (don't ask how he go it). Although i enjoyed, it really just felt like an updated version of the original game. No doubt the 360 and PS3 version will be in HD when they get released but I wouldn't count the Wii version out based on which controls you can use. The major negative about the Wii version to me is the lack of online multiplayer.

As for a comparison between NBA2K11 and NBA Jam, i think it depends on what type of basketball game you prefer to play. Whether it be tactical/realistic or something more on the casual side. Personally, I've never been able to get into the serious basketball games and have only really enjoyed the NBA Street series since the original Jam. Everything that made the original NBA Jam so much fun (and frustrating) is all still there in the 2010 version.

How will the wii joypad method work? you need three buttons to play NBA JAM Turbo, Shoot, Pass..
Unless they make you use the A or Z button.. sound awkward.

They couldnt possibly sell JAM for more then $60 could they? (I think that would be the sweet spot for a game like this)

From what I remember, it was the back trigger on the Wiimote that was the turbo button. It was awkward but I found it better then using it with the nunchuck combination. Taking shots with the Wiimote/nunchuck requires you to flick once up to make the player jump and flick down to release the shot. I found it just gave the opposing player too time to block your shots (all I heard on that game was..."get that outta here"). Playing it on the classic controller definitely seems like the best option.

Nah man, I'm sure the Wii version plays fine, but if I had the choice to get a multi-platform game on an HD console vs SD, I'd get the HD copy...

As I understood it, the version that was to be packed in with ELITE was in fact just a code that could be used to download the game. If that was the case, then maybe JAM might still be a downloadable title via XBL/PSN with a cheaper price tag. I'd pay $60 for a hard copy on an HD system, though.

I'll have to disagree with cheapo, I've just played the wii version and I prefer the nun chuck style. Although I tried to ingrain in my head that the horizontal remote style would be better, I just found the turbo button being very impractical (the button B). And pressing 1 + 2 to do a spin move/cross over/other proved a minor hassle too because it wouldn't trigger 10% of the time and I'd end up shooting or passing instead.

But in saying that, I will still try and adapt to the horizontal remote style!

I, too, am a fan of NBA Jam way back in the day. It was heaps of fun and not being a realistic basketball game had its advantages! Would it still be the 2v2 format or have they incorporated the entire team (5v5) on court?

Also, just wondering if anyone has played NBA2K11 and if so, is it worth getting, if one wants to play a realistic basketball sim? My last NBA game was NBA Live 2002 (I think) WAY back in the day on the PC. Wouldn't mind being to play as the greatest basketball player ever.

The new Jam still uses the 2 on 2 format but has a few more game modes. Including a campaign that requires you to beat/play all the NBA teams. Not sure about an option to play 5 on 5!

Yeh it is still a 2v2 format. But there's only a select few from each team you can choose from. So if you're favourite player is a marquee or popular player, then don't expect him to be available.

A few things I've picked up on -
And playing on insane is frustratingly insane!
The CPU has flaws as your teammate but you can call for the ball or call them to shoot anytime.
And you'll get a sore left thumb from playing too much (holding down directional buttons all day!)

The only place I can see NBA Jam listed is at GAME. Has anyone seen it anywhere else? JB?
