Not the Halo Reach trade repeatedly, although it did involve that.

Fortunately for me things just came together and unless you have very similar circumstances, chances are you won't be able to do this.

First off, I found a copy of Raging Blast at Big W for $44.84. I then went to GAME and traded it in for Halo: Reach + $9, price-matching Big W. This copy of Reach then went to EB for $110.40 store credit. Using this credit, I bought myself copies of GH: Greatest Hits (x2), GH: World Tour (x2), Rock Band Beatles and Prince of Persia - all on PS3 - to use as trade bait at JB HiFi.

Then I bought a copy of Modern Warfare 2 on PS3 in a private sale for $45 and traded in my personal copy to GAME (Raging Blast had been removed from their eligibility list at this point) for FIFA 11 + World Cup 2010. As a friend of mine is interested in FIFA 11, he will buy it off me for $70 on release, cheaper than he can get in shops elsewhere so it's a win-win situation for both of us. World Cup 2010 is to be used as trade bait.

I had recently also received a free $33 voucher at GAME as part of their loyalty program, which I used to purchase another copy of Prince of Persia and Red Faction Guerrilla on PS3.

Now, all of these 9 games were taken to JB HiFi and traded in for the three games I stated in my previous post.

So basically I spent $44.84 + $9 = $53*

*I don't count the $33 voucher as an expense because I received it for free in the first place. The FIFA 11 + Modern Warfare 2 transactions also technically don't count as they offset each other, but if they were to be included it would be around $40 spent, taking into account an extra $10+ to be added after price-matching FIFA 11 on release.

$44.84 + $9 + $45 - $70 + $10 = $38.84.

There's a fine line between taking advantage of a deal and being greedy, and you've crossed it Suicune.
Mind you, I'm sure the retailers aren't that pissed off by you.  By you posting on the forums they can make sure not to make similar mistakes in the future.

Yes because all the retailers will work together to stop this from happening.

It's not like Big W lost out on a sale - they got the $45 that they were selling Raging Blast for.
GAME has made a sale on Halo Reach.
EB will most likely sell Halo Reach as 'new' for $119.95 seeing as it was traded in within a week of release. They will also get the $110.40 back when the store credit is used in one of their stores.

At the end of the day, everything has been done legitimately and no line has been crossed. EB will take Halo Reach and offer the current trade-in value to anyone who wants to come in and trade the game irrespective of whether or not that person paid $119.95 for it at one of their stores and lost their receipt, or even if the person bought it for $40 less at Harvey Norman.

The fact is, unless Suicune is obtaining these games illegally by theft and trading them in to EB, he's doing nothing wrong. A "greedy" person is the type of person a retailer would probably welcome into their store anyway. Buying 5 copies of Halo Reach from Big W for their advertised price of $84? Why would Big W say no? Trading the game in to EB for $110.40 store credit, which they can then on-sell to their customers as 'new' for $119.95? Why would EB say no? Plus, when all the competition's stock of the game have been exhausted, until they can be restocked EB will have the only available copies of Halo Reach, preventing anyone from price-matching the competition and forcing them to pay RRP if they really want the game.

Now I'm not condoning the repeated exploit of EB's $110.40 trade-in value for Reach (which has expired anyway), but I do think that Suicune has done nothing wrong and it is unfair for you to insult him when he has chosen to share this with the community.

BigW price of $84 might be a loss leader to entice people to come into the store in order for them to buy other things at the same time.

CruXis is correct. on top of that why i trade in 3 games at JB they get to sell 3 games at about $40 to $50 each. so they make more then just selling halo reach for $88. also they have 3 games to sell so they are 3 times more likly to make a sale which imprves the companies cash flow posistion. and by me buying and trading around all the shops (bigw, GAME, EB, JB, Maccas (eating a soft serve whist i pace around the shopping centre going from store to store) i do all these companies business so they will restock from thier suppliers which means stimulating the economy. people like you that don't trade created the global financial crisis. this is why aust is out of the crisis but USA is still in it. cos noone's doing these trades in the states.

Also ontop of the businesses other stakeholder groups such as customers/public will benifit. there is not too many pre-owned copies for a new game on release. so by trading we are creating another product choice of consumers (pre-owned version) this will give someone more choice and might save them a few dollars so they can pay another weeks rent and not be out in the streets.

On topic... Here is this week's insite to wisdom.

exlusion list updated yesterday afternoon. i took a chance and traded my $8 guitar hero world tour at about 5:30pm in sydney. it worked. so i'm concluding the system updates when it is restarted. i.e. a new day. so fellow traders when you see the list update you have the end of the day to trade. this is great if your not quite finished playing a game (finish it, get all the easy trophies etc.) but worries the list will update. just play it till update then trade it on the day you'll be right.

2nd insite. saw on the system guitar hero world tour trade in value is $26 at JB as of 23rd Sept 2010 5:30pm sydney time. so buy up the $8 copies and trade it for JB store credit. i did 2 copies and got a $40 game and a pack of 10 blank DVDs

"people like you that don't trade created the global financial crisis"

Ok suicine, it may best not to make silly comments like this if you don't actually know the facts. I guarantee you that Christopher did not cause the GFC by not trading his games in.

Kudos for commenting your findings. We all know you helped a lot of people get cheap pre-orders. Argumentitively more in those two days than would have happened had everyone kept it a big hush hush secret that seems to be the fashion at the moment. But again that's a side argument.

So in summary, good post, but don't ruin it by sinking to the levels of internet "news" sites.

On a side note, this is also a little bit of an exageration:
"this is why aust is out of the crisis but USA is still in it. cos noone's doing these trades in the states"

Wouldn't all GH World Tours be sold out at EB by now due to a) the previous trade deal and b) it just being cheap?

Freakin updated exclusion list....caught me out. (JB)
btw, i ended up trading the GH games separately due to the exclusion list and 'GH: Greatest hits' valued at $17, and GH: World Tour at $16. (In Perth at 5:30, 24.09.10)

not great but better than a slap in the face.
