Does this game really need an introduction? The last of Blizzard's three IPs to get a sequel, StarCraft II will finally be released at midnight on the night of 26 July.

After a copy? Want to know where the midnight launch sites are?
Check out EcoGamer's StarCraft II Price Roundup.

Price round-ups are forum discussions that let the community track  prices and trade-in offers for upcoming releases. It is an opportunity  to share trade in exploits, point out online sales, reveal broken street  dates and helps reduce work for staff so that we can have more  frequent round-ups.

Harvey Norman pre-order - $88
Dick Smith pre-order - $89

since they region lock the online servers and we can't import, game's price might be the cheapest.

I wish I could go to the official midnight launch in Brisbane. But I'm in Gold Coast and will probably want to be drunk and will possibly (?) die on the way home. CE is pre-ordered and will be paid off tomorrow.

How do they region lock the servers? when WoW was first released over here there were no Aussie servers so Australians had to use servers in foreign countries... does the software run some sort of IP check when you connect to battle.net or something?

Genuinely a noob sort of question... I just don't get how that works... wouldn't a US copy of the game still (theoretically) be able to connect to servers in the US?

You can only access servers that are related to the region of your game. So if you get your game from US, you would access US servers. If you got yours in Aus, then its South-east Asia servers.

Ive ordered SC2 from CDwow a month back when it was under 50$...I dont care if it gets delivered 2 weeks after release date or if its region locked to Europe just wanna play the single player and map modder, I just hope they honour the order and wont cancel my order when it is time to ship. (which ive heard they do when they sell popular stock way under RRP)

I once was the same.. but they have cancelled 4 out of 5 of my perorders.. which is OK..
But when they cancelled my order ($160) then held the cash for another month.. thats when I drew my line!

I think the extra $30 is a small price to pay to be playing on local servers. The Asia servers are usually more competitive than Eu, which in turn is tougher than US. You also might want to play with your friends (I had no idea how many of MY friends were on beta till I used the facebook thing). Even if you have no interest in ladder now, you can always develop the interest later.

Go look up some hardcore sim/mech titles.  Some cost well over $1000.

Nah we are getting jibbed. We get SOUTH EAST asia servers. Korea not included. And since its all about piracy over there, there might not be much players.

Its pretty stupid because in WC3 everyone just went to lordaeron (US West) servers. No-one used asia or europe.
