The Unofficial EcoGamer PS3 Gamer Night Thread

Hey there, fellow PS3 owners,

You may have noticed that EcoGamer has previously ran a "Gamers" night for its members that was Xbox 360 exclusive and is planning upcoming events as well. This is great if you have an Xbox 360 [and presumably enjoy paying for access to online gaming servers ;P) but for the rest of us with the PS3's, we're left out in the cold.

Well, no longer I say. I say we rise up and organise our own PS3 gamer night to show them who's boss. This will be the thread where we start to carefully plan such a night before descending into namecalling, CAPS LOCK SCREAMING and eventually writing off the whole thing as being too hard.

Anyway.

If you're interested, reply here with your PSN username and preferred game(s). Note: We probably won't be playing newer games because that's not very Eco; it's more likely established classics that we all have [Killzone 2? COD4?] will be on rotation.

At this stage in time let's also aim for 18+ gamers only, mainly because you can't game properly without dropping F-bombs over headsets and, well, let's face it, no one likes to hear anrgy 14 year olds screaming at you to revive them. I swear that fat kid from Two A Half Men plays MAG. You should hear the mouth on him. Jeez Louise.

I too feel the need to be 'Unofficial' however I dont have any of those games (except killzone2 which i have lent out).. ALSO any chance of being really unofficial and make it next week? I've got WAY to much work this week and will be working tomoz night :.(

K so anyway I too will be joining this band of rebel ecogamer..
so my PSN is : AQUlL0  (the l is a lower case L and the 0 is a ZERO... Yes I know its confusing but some dude stole handle!)
Games I have: Battlefield BC1 & BC2, Red Dead, Uncharted2, SFIV... and maybe Ill go pick up COD4 at game for  $18

Oh, there's no way in Hell it'd be on tomorrow night. This is still the 'some day in the future' planning zone, whereby we find general consensus on games and times. BF:BC1 and 2 are great squad based games as well, if enough people have copies of either, we can do that, of course. Or even 4 player Borderlands if only a few sad shut-ins bother registering There's some motivation for us to get entering the Borderlands comp! [mental note: finish own entry before June 30]

COD4 is a classic game to have anyway, even if we didn't end up playing it. It also has some interesting parallels to BF:BC2 - one day recently I finally [FINALLY] got around to beating the COD4 campaign. I loved in the last storyline mission where you're on the back of a truck getting chased, then along comes the Hind and then you're going through the roadway curve with all the pylons whizzing by [so you can't get a clear shot but still see the heli etc etc]... ANYWAY. Both games have missions set on planes, too. Both games have a slo-mo bit where you're expected to take a headshot on a terrorist using a human shield..

And both games have guns too, I guess. Perhaps I'm reading too much into things!

LOL, just wanted to jump in with a quick comment - the main reasons that EG only run 360-Gamers-Nights:

1 - Setting up a gaming party w/randoms is a LOT easier on XBL than PSN;
2 - I think I may be the only EG staff member who owns a PS3 (beyond that, I don't own a 360, so I'm not even involved in the 360-nights);
3 - I play significantly more single-player games than multiplayer;
4 - The multiplayer games I play tend not to be the same ones everyone else plays.

In summary, it's partially my fault. Sorry.

Hence, I unofficially endorse the creation of this Unofficial PS3 Gamer Night thread. Go forth and pwn.

I totally dont think it's anyones fault! theres only been one gamer night so far! and it makes sense to test the waters with (lets face it) the superiour online console*.  And lets face it you guys arnt fulltime employed on this website... Or are you?

* Before It becomes a "lets beat on AQUIL0" forum let me explain.
   - You know everyone has a mic
   - A QUALITY mic
   - You can set party chat
   - And in all games you can join your friends game with no hassles (this is a requirment of XBL)!

Super Street Fighter 4 and Demon's Souls gets my vote. Can we cast an anti-vote? If yes, I'll anti-vote Tekken 6 because it's very laggy even with green bar connections due to the netcode.

It'll be unlikely to be Tekken OR Street Fighter at this stage for a few reasons:

1. I don't have either [though i do have BlazBlue and Marvel vs Capcom 2]
2. It's not thrilling 'online gamer night' play, is it? 2 people compete at a time? What does everyone else do? How do we determine who 'wins', S1NGULAR1TY has to draw up a World Cup Football style nightmarish ladder and chart of playoffs? Nopes! He ain't doin' dat!
3. Shooters facilitiate multiple simultaneous players, headset communication and we all know how to play them*

If the night is a success and we reveal we DO know how to meet up online and somehow get online play working then sure, future nights can be for some of these more unique games [but: multiplayer Demon's Souls across multiple servers?!??! "Everyone drop soul stones ... now!"]..

* as opposed to Tekken/Streethfighter. Yes, I can't Hadouken. Now you know. Sigh. My eternal shame..
