I have Scarface and Sacrifice here. Both still sitting on their respective platforms "as yet unplayed" pile. Actually think I got Sacrifice free with a mobo or GPU or osmething.
Matt Hazzard was fantastic. Not that the game was really all that good, but the high concept of it was just brilliant. Borrowed a bit from Tron, but approached it from a totally different angle. Really enjoyed that game. There is a "sequel" on XBLA now. I tried the Demo, and all the good stuff is still there, but reduced to a side scrolling 2d platformer. Not really my thing.
I freakin loves WET. So Grindhouse. The presentation was fantastic. Like John Woo and Tarrentino had a baby, and that baby has acid for breakfast every day, then this baby made this game while on a massive bender. Freakin awesome.

Hmmm, I know a few great games that did so badly they don't even get mentioned in things like this (and some of the better known unknown games too)!
On DS: Magical Starsign, Lunar Knights and Ninjatown are all brilliant and unheard of. Metal Slug 7, The World Ends With You (greatest game ever made!) and Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime are surprisingly good too.
On Wii: Little King's Story, Muramasa and Okami are right up there. That and Zack and Wiki, but I'm not sure if that last one counts because it gained huge fame because no-one had heard of it.
On PSP: Half-Minute Hero
None I can think of on PS3/360, but on PC I know of a killer: 65 Million and 1 BC. Brilliant platformer, but it never got a publisher and sold roughly 60 copies in its first 9 months on sale.

That game looks mental! It seems kinda cool (I'm not spending any money on platformers 'til I finish New Super Mario Bros though so I wond't be giving it a try any time soon).

It's not really like New Super Mario Bros. if anything I'd say it's most like 2d Metroid, but a bit simpler and a hell of a lot better written.

aaaah. completely missed this thread. only popped up on my radar because of a spammer post. who'd have thought they'd be useful? commenting on other's, i highly concur with the following recommendations: Valkyria Chronices, Beyond Good + Evil, Okami, Half-Minute Hero, ICO and to those, naturally i have to add: Shadow of the Colossus, Global Defence Force - anyone heard of that one? thought i'd really love WET. the controls and gameplay were just too awkward. awesome grindhouse still couldn't save it.

Demon Souls on PS3, only sold about 650K worldwide. If your into RPGs that are heavy on customisation and stats, also a game that is hardcore to the action than this is the game for you.
I'd also recommend Siren: Bloodcurse, again on the PS3. As a horror game of course it has flaws, but in terms of setting it's pretty realistic.

Global Defence Force - anyone heard of that one? There is actually three of those. Two on PS2 and one on x360. one of the PS2 ones was actually a "tactics" game and imo not that great. Good, but not a lost Gem. I never played the other PS2 one and am spewin, cos the x360 sequel is one of my favorite Beer and Mates games of all time. I am a bit of a D3 whore. I am always actively trying to find their games translated to english. Cos they are the absolute pinnacle of "cheap fun" when it comes to gaming.

Two on PS2 and one on x360. one of the PS2 ones was actually a "tactics" game and imo not that great. three, if you count monster attack. i wouldn't also - picked up GDF tactics in a kmart sale for $1! hasn't seen the inside of a console yet. Good, but not a lost Gem. I never played the other PS2 one and am spewin, cos the x360 sequel is one of my favorite Beer and Mates games of all time. it is absoutely a lost gem, and i can forgive you for not thinking so because you haven't played it. GDF is much superior (in gameplay) to it's 360 sequel EDF2017. I am a bit of a D3 whore. I am always actively trying to find their games translated to english. Cos they are the absolute pinnacle of "cheap fun" when it comes to gaming.
i went on a buying spree of simple series games a while back. Zombie v Ambulance (zombie virus), Zombie Hunters (onechanbara series), the list goes on...

I love Zombie Vs Ambulance! I can never beat the final boss on that game, it just feels like its really badly glitched or something. Right up to then however, massive fun! I have 3 of the 4 Onichanbara games on PS2, and the Wii and x360 games as well. fantastic mindless fun. I have a Fighting Game (name excapes me right now) from the Simple series. Its a tourney fighter and has almost all of their popular characters facing off, including the EDF dude! I will be honest and say I never actually played this one, but it was only $5 @ Kmart, so I bought it just for the cheekyness of the concept, and it also looks cool on the shelf with my quite nice collection of D3 PS2 games. Spewin I never got to play the EDF PS2 game if its better than GDF2017, cos 2017 is absolutely my favorite beer and mates game that does not include some sort of peripheral. I never even saw it for sale anywhere. Only ever found the Tactics one, and.. well its kinda ****. I love D3. Such tacky, fun, awesome stuff. And almost dirt cheap, too!
