Can a mod add a public poll with poll question: Who has had their copy of L4D2 seized by customs? i.e received a letter from Customs stating that it has been seized.

with following poll options:

- Yes, seized
- No, slipped through the net

Seized by customs, Christmas mail delays, abducted by aliens, all theories go here.

kgo!

Added as per OP request. Didn't realise you guys couldn't add polls to threads. Huh.

What have been the outcomes? Doesn't customs fine you for knowingly importing prohibited material(although I suppose they couldn't prove it)? Do you think you will get your money back from the store? Or does customs destroy the item?

theres no real outcome. they say it has been seized and forfeited, that they wont be taking legal action, but dont do it again or the almighty federal boot shall give you a kicking. it also has a section on how you can appeal, but that involves importing permits, you will probably lose and be charged approx $400 for wasting the courts time.

and according to a friend in the federal police, your name gets added to a database, and your stuff gets more likely to be screeened thru customs in future. that was the bit i was especially not delighted by.

all in all, it has a tone of, sigh, we dont care, but dont do it again.

Let it serve as a warning to everyone then.

EDIT: Can you scan and upload a copy of the letter?

I ordered mine overseas...I hope it gets past!

I thought you were legally allowed to own RC material in anywhere except WA. :\

What I gathered was, it's illegal to import material that is legal to possess and view in Australia because it is illegal to import material that is RC Classified AND is unfit for an adult to view / play but because games only go up to MA15+ it was only classified to be unfit for 15 year olds, which aren't adults. There is no R18+ ratings for games so no game can be rated unfit for an adult. Am I wrong here?

I take it everyone here is going to make a submission for the Public Consultation on getting an R18+ rating for computer/videogames in Australia?

I was planning to Import L4D2 (like I've previously done with GTAIV) but after hearing of people getting items seized by customs I'm pretty wary.

I dont see how customs has any right to seize imported versions of LFD2 when people only intend to use it for personal use. If someone intended to import and sell them here then thats a big no no.
