you're a nice guy omikronflux. i like you.
i guess not all eb employees are douchebags. no offence.
thanks for explaining it.
=]

Thanks, and none taken! Tongue

I know exactly what you mean, I've met some really ****py people at EB over the years. But I think when it comes down to it, every company's like that. Some stores are awesome and some are ****. I buy all my DVD's and such from JB Hi-Fi, and while my local one is a bunch of morons, there's one 10 minutes down the road from there that're all awesome. Just the way retail goes these days. Most of the EB's in my area are full of really nice people but I've met some shockers over the years Smiley

Nice 530's in the background there, too Tongue.

Thanks a lot for the info Omnikronflux...
Anytime Smiley

Hey guys,

I've been using these forums for a while now for myself, but thought it was about time I post here Smiley. I've been an employee at EB Games (In Melbourne) for a few years now, and used to manage one of the city stores (Have since stepped back to a casual role to make time for study).

Anyway, I just wanted to confirm a few policies for you guys, since you've all saved me some serious cash in the past, thought I'd return the favor.

EB is definately offering the $95 Trade Back value, you'll be able to find the fliers for it at your local store. Most of you will recognize this trade scheme from Halo ODST or GTA4, we do it on most new release titles.

It's really important to note that EB definately will only take one copy of a title for trade in per-customer. So you can't grab MW2 on the cheap elsewhere and come trade it in to us for the higher value.

As far as getting cash for games, you can't do it on the trade-in scheme. As it says on the bottom of the flier, it's store credit only. However, you should be able to get a gift-card for this (I know my store is allowing this).

I can't speak for other states, but in Victoria it is the managers discretion in terms of trading in for cash. Most of the city stores won't do it because there is a massive risk of trading in stolen games. However, the smaller stores do trade for cash. You are correct that a trade for cash yields 20% less value than a trade for store credit.

I noticed someone said EB won't be pricematching at the midnight launches - definately can tell you that's not true. Whichever store is doing that will be the exception, as we haven't been told not to price match on the midnight launch.

Really hope to see alot of you guys for the midnight launches tonight, there's alot of really fun events planned and I personally can't wait. If you're in the Melbourne area, hop down to the Knox Midnight Launch, it's going to be crazy, lots of cool stuff planned.

If anyone's got any EB-related questions they'd like answered by a veteran, feel free to ask me or send me a PM. I would ask however that you don't ask me questions like 'Why are your prices so high' or 'Why does X game trade for this much?'. These are Head Office decisions and I don't have insight on that.

Oh, and one last tip. If you are planning to Price-Match, do yourself a favor and bring us the catalogue or print-out of the price you're planning on matching. We have been told to be extremely vigilant on scammers or people who might try to make up prices, but price matching is part of our policy and we're happy to do it if it's legit. We'll only march in-store prices, not online catalogue prices, so if you can try to bring a store catalogue with you. If you can't find one, bring the printed one and if we've confirmed it previously (Most stores do call arounds to suss out what our competitors are doing) we can do it for you. If you're really worried about us matching it or not, pop into your local store during the day and ask us to call the store you're wanting to pricematch so we can confirm the price before midnight.

Hope this helps all Smiley

Hi there

I also work at EBGames in Victoria as well, and my manager said that there will be no price matching on Midnight Launch...

Good question, and they probably won't like it, but policy says we have to do it. Make sure you bring the catalogue and there shouldn't be a problem. If you do have issues, do the trade and the purchase at different stores, putting the credit on a gift card Smiley. I personally don't mind doing those sort of transactions but I know managers who won't do them so it's one to look out for Smiley

Yeah you can definitely do this, but we do price matching when you pick-up the product, not when you preorder. So let the staff know you intend to do that price match, but when it comes out on the 19th, bring the catalogue with you just in case!

Yeah, I've actually been hearing that a lot. It looks like many stores are choosing not to price match on the night to save time. That's a good move, as pricematching could make the difference between everyone getting out at 12:30 or 2:00 AM.

Anyone planning to pricematch, my advice would be to hold on to your receipt and drop into EB before the 17th to get a refund of the difference. To be clear, EB will be pricematching the product, looks like we just won't do it on the night to save time Smiley

Well, its actually this.

First come first served, at 11pm (or 10:30pm depending on stores), you'll have to come up and show your receipt, your receipt will be numbered.

at 12:01am, those numbers are called, you come and collect and then run away to your console/PC to enjoy the sweet sweet taste of blood Smiley

Yeah that's the pretty standard way to do it, such a good system. I remember at the GTA4 launch, the GAME store in our centre opened their doors at 12:01 to do payment, was such a silly way to do it Cheesy

Did your store get a mystery box? Ours just got a box full of goodies and the first people to come in get to take something out, we have no idea what's in there and I can't wait to see.

There is no need to plain your little trade schemes to make a few extra bucks, buy the game and enjoy it and stop being Noobs.

cos most of us cant afford full price / want max value out of the very little $ we have

plus eb has an offer, which doesnt make any sense unless you look at it the way most of the people here do.

If you want to hold onto it then you are free to do so, but I (Like a lot of people here) use trading in to save a big chunk of money. Especially this month, where there's at least ten games I want to play (All at $100+). I don't have a grand sitting around to spend so I'll trade in the games I'm finished with. Great example would be Uncharted 2 - I got $60 back for that game after playing the awesome single player. I was never going to play the multi, and to me, paying $40 for that single player experience was more than worth it.

These forums are for people looking to save money, not for elitists to tell the rest of us what to do. The only contribution I got out of your post was that Modern Warfare 2 is going to be awesome - maybe you should stop there Smiley.

I have to agree with Omikronflux, there's a ton of games I wanted to get, with most of them being released this month and I just don't have the necessary funds to buy them all without trading games in to reduce the cost. Especially makes it hard for me to find any time to play games due to exams though *sigh*  Undecided

Anyway reading the pricing of Modern Warfare 2. Does anyone know if Gametraders has a standard price for it across the country? Or is it up to each Franchise?

As I'm wondering if it is worth going to Gametraders Carousel in Perth at midnight tonight, or just picking it up from DSE tomorrow?
