Hey guys,

I've been using these forums for a while now for myself, but thought it was about time I post here Smiley. I've been an employee at EB Games (In Melbourne) for a few years now, and used to manage one of the city stores (Have since stepped back to a casual role to make time for study).

Anyway, I just wanted to confirm a few policies for you guys, since you've all saved me some serious cash in the past, thought I'd return the favor.

EB is definately offering the $95 Trade Back value, you'll be able to find the fliers for it at your local store. Most of you will recognize this trade scheme from Halo ODST or GTA4, we do it on most new release titles.

It's really important to note that EB definately will only take one copy of a title for trade in per-customer. So you can't grab MW2 on the cheap elsewhere and come trade it in to us for the higher value.

As far as getting cash for games, you can't do it on the trade-in scheme. As it says on the bottom of the flier, it's store credit only. However, you should be able to get a gift-card for this (I know my store is allowing this).

I can't speak for other states, but in Victoria it is the managers discretion in terms of trading in for cash. Most of the city stores won't do it because there is a massive risk of trading in stolen games. However, the smaller stores do trade for cash. You are correct that a trade for cash yields 20% less value than a trade for store credit.

I noticed someone said EB won't be pricematching at the midnight launches - definately can tell you that's not true. Whichever store is doing that will be the exception, as we haven't been told not to price match on the midnight launch.

Really hope to see alot of you guys for the midnight launches tonight, there's alot of really fun events planned and I personally can't wait. If you're in the Melbourne area, hop down to the Knox Midnight Launch, it's going to be crazy, lots of cool stuff planned.

If anyone's got any EB-related questions they'd like answered by a veteran, feel free to ask me or send me a PM. I would ask however that you don't ask me questions like 'Why are your prices so high' or 'Why does X game trade for this much?'. These are Head Office decisions and I don't have insight on that.

Oh, and one last tip. If you are planning to Price-Match, do yourself a favor and bring us the catalogue or print-out of the price you're planning on matching. We have been told to be extremely vigilant on scammers or people who might try to make up prices, but price matching is part of our policy and we're happy to do it if it's legit. We'll only march in-store prices, not online catalogue prices, so if you can try to bring a store catalogue with you. If you can't find one, bring the printed one and if we've confirmed it previously (Most stores do call arounds to suss out what our competitors are doing) we can do it for you. If you're really worried about us matching it or not, pop into your local store during the day and ask us to call the store you're wanting to pricematch so we can confirm the price before midnight.

Hope this helps all Smiley

Robism, whoever you're talking to is incorrect. This is a company wide promotion going until the 16th of november. Tell him to ask his manager or look on the promotions listing on his register and he'll be able to confirm this. If you're still not having luck, tell me which store you're asking and I'll call them up and find out what's going on Smiley

Firstly, thanks for the post, nice to squash a rumour at the source Smiley

And thanks also for clearing up the bit of murkiness with the putting store credit onto a gift card...
It's strange, people are, in the main, going to be spending that credit in the same store anyway...
It's just covering their asses, as some people will do that, then sell the card for cash...

I'm glad we've saved you a bundle of cash, as I'm sure you've provided some good information for others Smiley

That's really odd Robism, especially for two stores to tell you the same thing. Once you get store-side, if they still wont honour the deal, ask them to call their area manager, as I can tell you with 100% certainty we're running that deal.

Sorry to double post, but Robism, but I went ahead and called the Chullora store for you. They did say they are running the deal, BUT their system is still listing the $58 trade price, which is probably where the other stores are getting confused.

This happened with ODST as well, and what usually happens is the price will switch over tommorow when we're actually allowed to sell the game. So I'd give your local store a call then and confirm that they're doing the deal. If not, that's when the Area Manager call should come through.

Hope this helps!

just called EB blacktown,
i asked if they would price match during midnight launch.
the dude said they would but, i would have to pay full price on the night and then bring in my receipt during the week to get money back to match with the price i was matching it for.

That's a weird one. They might be doing it as a time-saving measure (As doing pricematching on the spot of a midnight launch can be a massive pain when you've got 100+ orders). I'd say they're doing that so you don't have to wait around until 1:00AM to get your game. Some of the larger stores I've worked at do this so it's not totally uncommon.

You probably could fight it to the point that they'll do it to make you happy, but honestly, you're probably better off doing as they ask Smiley. What's cool is that you don't have to go back to that store, you can go to whatever store you like to get that difference refunded.
