I am looking to get back into PC gaming again and look to build a new comp for Diablo 3. I like to play games inside my room on a 37" Full HD LCD TV, and the main goal is to hook my new computer up to it and not buy a new super high-res monitor, hook up a gamepad and essentially just use my computer like a console.

As the TV has a max res of 1080P, do u guys think it will be over kill for me to buy a GTX 680 graphics card, just so I can get rock solid 60+ fps on 1080P for most games? Does Comp > HDTV have good quality at all, or should I definitely buy a new 22" or so monitor?

I only ever know about hardware when Im in the market for a new machine. About what kind of card to get, think about what other games you might want to play. Keep in mind with PC gaming as cheap as it is today it may be a worthwhile investment getting a top range card and then clean up with the sales on Steam, Amazon, Green Man Gaming and so forth.

Plus at retail PC games are $10 or more cheaper. Over the span of 3-4 years you are talking of saving a couple hundred dollars which you may as well throw into a card now that will last that length of time before becoming obsolete. As long as PC becomes your primary platform (why not, if its in the lounge room and most games support gamepads).

Been using my PC on my HDTV for over a year now, best decision I ever made; 1080p on a big TV is heaven, much better than on a monitor.

Just need Steam to release their "Big Picture" mode or whatever it's called so that I can read it better from the couch Tongue

You just don't realise how much better games are at 1080p until you have two copies of a game like Assassin's Creed or Mass Effect and switch between the exact same place in the game on the two HDMI inputs.

The PC is just so much more detailed and fluid, even on my GTX280.

Console gaming is for chumps.

Sounds good, thanks mish_kebab!

@Anthony
You make a really good point, purchases alone will save $200-250 / yr if getting pc version vs console version, as long as not trying to trade the game in after finishing!
