3DS Region Lock?

So, finally with some awesome 3DS games coming out I was going to get some cheap from the UK, from Zavvi or somewhere like that. But people keep telling me that 3DS games have region locks on them, is that true? Can't seem to find any info on what or where the regions are if at all.

UK&EURO 3DS games will work on any AUS 3DS console
because they are PAL region encoded

US and Asia games are not compatible with AUS

That's what I assumed, but isn't PAL a TV format?

Either way as long as can get me some cheap 3DS games from the UK I don't care, thanks!

Oysterhead: If you do get 3DS games from the UK and can play them on your AUS 3DS, let us know, if anything just as confirmation!

ianinozzie: No probs mate.  I'm currently eyeing off Tales of the Abyss for 3DS. Since it's a JB exclusive, the current price is $69.95 which imo is waaay too much. ozgameshop are selling it for $44.95(preorder), so the $25 I save can now go towards Mario Kart 3ds.
