Zavvi and The Hut have dropped their preorder prices to

about 200 pounds for console only

http://www.zavvi.com/10300671.html
http://www.thehut.com/10300670.html

or 227 pounds with a game (such as street fighter as shown here)

http://www.zavvi.com/10308247.html
http://www.thehut.com/10308247.html

Combine this with free postage during February for either store, and discount codes:

The Hut - "save4"
Zavvi - "pricedrop4"

and you have the cheapest option available since the Dick Smith deal

It's obviously stated that it's only one of the 3 (seemingly mediocre) Ubisoft titles. And I also expect EB's trade-in values for these titles to dive as well because thousands will be buying these packs. So keep in mind you'll probably be holding onto it.

But the $298 Pre-order deal a couple days ago (or $283 with discount code) was the best one available and will likely remain the best 3DS bundle until launch. The 'starter kit' is not worth $50.

If anyone plans to purchase via Zavvi, be aware that you may be buying an European model. Don't forget the 3DS is set to be regionlocked.

With Game's current Most Wanted trade-in promotion:

http://www.game.com.au/mostwanted

Think I'm going to trade in a DS Lite ($80 + extra $10 credit) and a DSi ($140 + extra $10 credit) and Donkey Kong Country Returns ($60 + $5 credit) to get a total of $305 credit value. Then I'll just have to pay the extra $45 for a 3DS...no better time to upgrade my DS wares!

I'd use the DSi + 2 games trade, except that I know Game are NOTORIOUS for refusing to take in anything other than Australian games, and the Aus DS games that I have I want to keep!

beralj: I've considered that, except the fact that a lot of eBay DS games are cheap because they're not AUS region, even if they may be AUS sellers. I've purchased a number over the past couple of years and they are mostly from Asia or Europe. I'd rather not take that chance.

Quote
GAME - Trade in Nintendo DS Lite to get $80 off
GAME - Trade in Nntendo DSi to get $140 off

This information seems incorrect. I went to trade my DS Lite in at Game yesterday and the trade-in value was only $50. With their "Wanted" promotion until 28 February, I got only $60 of trade-in value for the DS Lite.

The store-listed trade-in value of the DSi was $120 (though I'm not sure if this already takes the extra $10 from the "Wanted" promotion into account or not).

Interesting enough, in the same shopping mall, the EB Games were giving $80 trade-value for a DS Lite and $140 for the DSi. I wish I had gone to EB Games first and found that out.
