PS3 Play TV Freezes
«

I recently purchased a PS3 250gb with the play TV and found that when I record shows and play back.. it freezes the play back sometimes and it's very choppy.
I read somewhere that they said just update to the newest software... but that doesn't work... also got told that my antenna signal is weak... but I don't have an issue watching normal TV. Then they said I must be running out of hard disk space... but I still have over 200gb free space...
Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same issue with PS3 play TV.

I recently had a similar issue, where a recorded program became choppy and froze. At that point, I restarted the PS3 and PlayTV would hang on launch. After reading some other online info, it appears to be a somewhat common issue, where the settings for PlayTV become corrupted. You can resolve the issue by deleting the PlayTV data that's stored under Games in the XMB but this also removes your recordings.
Some people have had success launching PlayTV through a different user but I was unable to resolve the issue this way.

OK this has gotton even worse....
For the pass two days... I've been recording TV using play TV during the day time.. scheduled record. I get home and the PS3 has not turned itself off.
Not sure if this is the same issue with the PS3 Ywk issue? Anyone know?

Ok two things:
Further to my post above, I traced the initial source of the choppy/prone-to-freezing recordings to my coax aerial cable needing to be replaced. We had been using this cable for years to watch TV without issue but it appears it was not up to the task of providing strong enough reception for PlayTV to record from. Since replacing the cable, there was no change to PlayTV's interpretation of the signal strength (around 85%) but the recordings have been smooth and seamless.
Secondly, I believe the PS3 will only turn off automatically if it was turned on automatically by the PlayTV schedule. If it was on and started recording or you turned the PS3 on during a scheduled record, it will remain on as directed by it's power saving settings. I have my PS3 set to automatically turn off after 1 hour of no activity and this has proven to be effective at keeping the PS3 powered down in all PlayTv/normal usage situations.

The problem with PlayTV is, that it's rather poorly designed. Even a PS3, with all its infinite power struggles to multitask functions.
I've heard that if you just let it record and not do anything else, it will help alleviate the problem.
