No one gives a stuff about those games... And are often cheaper on eBay...
Agreed. I was more referring to what happened with the Big W clearance.

When people clean out several entire stores for cheap trade-in games depriving anyone else from getting any games, where is the incentive to report bargains for others?

Best point so far.

No one gives a stuff about those games...

As yes, very good point...

There were games in that sale that I've been wanting for my collection...

Easy come, easy go though, I'm sure if people weren't using as trade bait, they'd be taking them to Cash Converters Smiley
And the unfortunate thing was that I saw topics on this over at PALGN and Whirlpool, so the clearing out was always going to happen... Sad

And before someone whinges about people just buying trade bait and 'genuine' people missing out... Why are the games so cheap? They're either ****py games that no one wants, or EB have a surplus of them...

An important point... games being put on the exclusion list has little to do with their "Cost" or "sale price" or "clearance price" at Store X (or Y or Z) and a lot more to do with their sales potential.. no-one wants to be stuck with 1000 copies of "****tastic ****tacular 2: the ****fest continues" (hell.. stores don't even want to be stuck with 20 copies of the collectors edition of the latest game).

As someone who works in the retail industry and has seen much of this 'Trade Bait' recently (With Modern Warfare 2), I'd just like to point this out.

In my experience, if people want to 'Cheat' the system, they will. This website might make it quicker, but it doesn't encourage the act. If someone is going to steal a car, they're going to steal a car. They're not going to wait for a website to tell them the easiest way to do it.

Yes, I agree that there are people on this site that might take action that I consider unethical. On a retail level, when I see someone trade in Modern Warfare on day one, I can't help but think they're probably taking advantage of the trade price.

However

Someone a few posts back said that this sort of practice is within the bounds the retailers set. They're spot on. People who take part in these practices are doing exactly what retail companies are letting them do. It's not illegal, just unethical.

Ethicality is not about what's allowed and what's not, it's about what's right and what's wrong. And while you can try and tell us it's unlawful, you're dead wrong.

They're are some really **** situations we've been put through on a retail level lately. Dick Smith's clearance sale a few months ago cost my store at the time a small forture. Today was the second day of Modern Warfare trade ins and we've already got over 20 copies. I don't believe at all that any of those are legitimate trade-ins, they're probably all being traded at a profit for the customer. Bottom line, EB doesn't care. If they did, they'd stop taking trades. It's the price the retailer pays for having these policies in place.

Despite this trade bait nonsense, and the unethical behaviour, EB Games is still making millions a year, per store. And whether EcoGamer exists or not, it's going to happen. Don't blame the site, blame the people.

Admin, probably worth locking this thread. Obviously this debate is one sided and probably not worth the fuss Smiley

Me too! those asterix's do make it look cooler/more ominous through.  I'm now thinking that maybe when I started Brutal Legend I should've asked to bleep out the swearing, it really is funnier!
