I've been going through the statistics for the site and while the numbers are relatively low they are still very promising. We get mostly Australian visits (unlike other Aussie sites), over 90% bookmark rate and loads of returning visitors. The RSS feed gets lots of unique visits too.

There are lots of ways to get people to visit sites. I like the idea of signature images to be used on other sites. We have been mentioned in a few blogs (thanks!!) and so on. I'll be working on these and asking for assistance as it is needed.

However, as return rates are near 100% I think simply telling friends about the site is an effective way to raise the hits. The higher the hits, the more I can validate spending energy operating the site and even spending on it (it uses lots of bandwidth as you can imagine).

Thanks to those who are already telling others, and those who arnt please do.  Grin

I've told a few people about the site, though only one of the people I'm aware of frequently visits.
Great news that a few people have been blogging about the site, it might be a good idea to try and seek affiliate status with a couple of websites as well.

It might be worthwhile submitting individual items of news off to bloggers or valid news sites. For example on a few occasions GoNintendo.com have credited Aussie Nintendo with several Wii bargains (the BigW one with Strikers and another one), the upcoming BigW offers might be a good one to send on to them.

We haven't managed to nab too many Playstation and PC gamers yet either, so that could be a potential place to target.

they have been posting Australian bargains and competitions recently. Have a look:
http://gonintendo.com/?p=19169
http://gonintendo.com/?p=18777
http://gonintendo.com/?p=18222

for the bargains, I assume if you emailed them and told them how much the savings are, the would be inclined to post it. The BigW one for this week would be worth sending to them.

Hmm... looks like no GoNintendo love....

Anthony do you want me to try and send it in as well?
It could also depend on who's on "duty" over there. Perhaps one of the content submitters is more sympathetic to Aussie news than others...

Possibly. Im not sending them a second one but you certainly can. 40% off Wii games is pretty big, I dont know why it didnt get through.

Anyway, any recommendations on affiliates?

Gee, this is a bit unfair.
Even after Anthony and I submitting this news to GoNintendo, they ignored us yet posted this a few days later:

*sigh

Cant say Im suprised.

I wish more sites were supportive like PALGN and Vooks. Ive been snobbed in the past and know what its like, even when plugs are legitimate and classy you are often made to feel underhanded and, well, like a dirty porno director.

we are getting owned here:
http://gonintendo.com/?p=19684

yet, if you go to the Link provided, guess where A-N go there source from... at least they are referencing us. Anthony, it might be a good idea to watermark your images like many other sites do.

I cant find any suitable watermarking scripts. I dont like the idea of watermarking over catalogues either.

I just wasted several hours finding, testing and installing something that did what I wanted. But I couldnt get the transparency to work and then I realised it was duplicating every image (a new image for watermark + original image)! So I decided not to keep it.

Hey Anthony,
If you have PS (if you don't I do, and would love to help out with the site Grin ) you could just twinkle with the Opacity meter until it gets to a level of transparancy that you like?
Cheers

GIMP is hella fiddly. Cant recommend it unless you want a free gfx program and dont want to break the law, like me. Its powerful but takes twice as long to do anything.
