Welcome to EcoGamer.
77  Discussion Categories / Gaming / What do YOU play online? on: June 30, 2009, 01:52:38 PM
Hi all, I thought it would be good to have a topic where everyone can optionally post what games they play online (whether on PS3, XBox Live, Wii, PC) and relevant UserIDs/Friend Codes/etc - it'll be a great way to make friends on EcoGamer as well, because playing with people you know is more fun than playing with people you don't know.

I'll start this off:

On Steam (ID: http://steamcommunity.com/id/chwong)
Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead, occassionally

Warcraft III/DotA on Bored Aussie [BA] gaming network (ID: Chibi_)

I found Ecogamer around the same time as dark_moogle did via Kotaku AUS, in it's much younger days. It certainly has changed and improved a lot since then - credit to Anthony and his staff for putting in a lot of work into the site.

I would have to say that buying overseas is definitely cheaper than buying games locally - this applies predominantly to PC games.

The local Australian prices of PC games are so inflated in comparison to those in Asian countries (even if buying original legal copies). This difference is not so apparent in console games.

Let's take COD4 on PC for instance. This game retailed at $100 at release (nearly 1.5+ years ago now?) in pretty much every local game outlet and hasn't seen a noticeable price drop since then. I bought my copy on eBay; it was an imported version. The box/manual was in Thai, but the game was US English. Cost me $35 all up.

Another example is Left 4 Dead on PC, retailing for $100 in the shops but purchasable on Steam for around $40-$50 USD? Although the exchange rate had dropped considerably, it was still much cheaper to buy online than in the stores.

Wanted to go to the Brisbane one this year in April, but ended up not going because I was poor.

I wanted to cosplay too... as Sailor Moon.

I am a guy, by the way.

I'll be there next year if I can find time, but I'll have graduated and would hopefully be in a full-time job.

Has anyone played this gem?

Hotel Dusk is like a digital crime/detective novel adventure game. The story is great, really plot-driven and just so thoroughly done. I spent a good 15 hours playing this and really getting into the story.

It's a shame I haven't seen it on sale at the local EB or Gametraders. I imagine it's a rare game in Australia.

I've given Lunar Knights a fair go, and for the most part, I enjoyed it.

It's basically mindless hack'n'slash.

That's basically all you do really... Unless you're a real hack'n'slash addict, I wouldn't go for it.

Check out some gameplay videos, it might give you a better idea of what it'll be like.

Hi all,

My name is Charles. I'm 21, I live in Brisbane southside.

Love my games.

Studying journalism, final year at UQ.

I hope to contribute to EG now that I have plenty of free time, and hopefully to promote EG around Brisbane at the various game stores too.

Cheers.

Anthony, I can also do graphics design for the site. I'm self-taught in photoshop and illustrator and do a few things.

I forgot to mention that I'm a journalism major at the University of Queensland in my final year.

I can definitely help with editing if you are looking for another editor.

And I am willing to give writing a go.

Hi Anthony,

I'm a gamer from the southside Brisbane area and I am also an occasional blogger in my spare time.

I would be happy to volunteer to help out with your site and to bring it some publicity.

If you need someone to compile newsletters, I can give that a go. Just let me know how often you would like them and what sections of the site it should cover.

I am also good to do reviews for the Nintendo DS which I'm a big fan of. Regarding review styles, perhaps we should develop some kind of review template to make review posting easier. That's just an idea. I'm not really for or against using a template but perhaps we should specify an ideal length.

I do also scour my local EB's/Kmart/whatever for bargains, even though I'm not much of a buyer nowadays since I don't have much time to play.

You can contact me via email on charlsy@gmail.com for now. Cheers.
