Left 4 Dead 2
I purchased very few games in 2009 that were actually released in 2009, as I'm sure was the case for many of our readers. There was one game though that I couldn't wait to play and even preordered to gain access to the demo as early as possible. Say what you want about Valve and their broken promises for Left 4 Dead because at the end of the day, Left 4 Dead 2 has proved to be my personal GOTY.

The new weapons and special infected add variety that was desperately needed in the original game, but are finally here to be enjoyed. The additions themselves do nothing to break the spirit of the original but I do think the day time settings and new survivors give the campaigns a different feel. For better or worse. It is essentially the same addictive co-operative game the original was.

As a fan of co-operative games I must say I enjoyed the year. Infact the only games released in 2009 that I own are Left 4 Dead 2, Borderlands and Halo 3: ODST. Good times.

Modern Warfare 2
Call me a fanboy... Go on... Do it...! Even though it was released very late in 2009, November 10th to be exact, and sure this is the Game Of The 'Year'. But going through the other releases from the year that I enjoyed, Borderlands, Batman Arkham Asylum, Sacred 2 and Red Faction: Guerrilla, these couldn't hold a candle to Modern Warfare 2. Since release, I have played this game for 136 game hours, yes you heard right, and 130 of those hours were put into Multiplayer, practically giving this GOTY based on Multiplayer alone... Yes, yes I have... Smiley If this had of been released as a MP-only game, it still would have been huge... Did it live up to the hype? It did in my world...

Fifa 10
This game had a lot to beat, with its' predecessor, Fifa 09, being a major hit on the Xbox 360. But it sure lived up to it's expectation! The game is simply brilliant, which is why I voted it as my "Game of the Year 2009". The gameplay is fluent and the graphics are stunning. People have said that there is a fierce rivalry between Pro Evolution Soccer and Fifa. I don't think so! The online in Fifa 10 is great as well. There is minimal lag, with the occasional bump here or there but no game's perfect which makes this game top of my list for 2009.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
MW2 gets a second vote from me as the pick for 2009's Game of the Year. Many will agree that Call of Duty 4 was one of the top games of its time, and MW2 did more than just improve the winning formula of fast-paced high-adrenaline FPS action. With customisations rivalling the amount of different guns in Borderlands, MW2 gives players the freedom to play how they want to play, catering to both rambos and stealth gunners alike. Although many considered the lack of dedicated servers a major letdown for the PC version, the sheer number of online players proves otherwise.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Firstly, I'll say, I'm the biggest Assassin's Creed fanboy you'll find. Absolutely love the series. AC2 did INCREDIBLE things to fix the annoyances of the first game, advance the storyline to somewhere completely unexpected, and get me craving the next one. It was so very close to winning my GOTY.

But it was nothing compared to the rollercoaster ride that Uncharted 2 managed to pull off.

It may not have been as long, or as deep as AC2, but Uncharted 2 grabbed you as a player and didn't let go until the final fight. Amazing (and genuinely funny!) writing, the best graphics this console generation, and solid - yet improved - gameplay; they all come together in ths must-have package.

If you own a PS3, and do not own Uncharted 2, you fail as a gamer.
If you don't own a PS3, well, I feel sorry for you. I wish there was a cheaper way for you to experience one of the milestones of gaming history.
