Assassin's Creed 2 was released today, and many stores around the country held a midnight release so that eager gamers could get their hands on a copy and start playing as soon as possible. EG was in attendance at EB's "official" QLD launch, at Indooroopilly. Click through to read about the event, and see the photos. The first thing I noticed when I arrived was how full the car park was for a Wednesday night. Extremely full. I thought to myself, "I know Assassin's Creed is a popular franchise, but this popular? Surely not." Walking into the centre was intimidating. People, everywhere. But something was wrong. These weren't AC fans. These weren't regular people either. They were EMOS. Worse than emos - Twilight fans. I ran. Security guards recognised the look of terror on my face, and understood immediately. They pointed me towards the the bright fluro lights, where the emos would not dare to tread. Conveniently, the nearest lit up area in the vicinity was the EB Games store downstairs. Talking to the staff, I got the impression that the launch was smaller than they had expected. They had gotten 150 at the MW2 launch, but given the smaller brand and having to compete with the Twilight movie launch, they were only expecting 50 tonight (is there overlap between Twilight fans and AC fans?). A couple of people were playing the store copy of AC2. Others watched the AC Lineage films on the store TVs to pass the time before midnight. Lollies, mousepads, a raffle to win signed posters + an AC notebook (which was quite fancy, but I didn't manage to get a photo of). Finally midnight arrived, and people queued for their game. Knowing that the Twilight fans would be safely locked in their cinemas by now, I headed off to pick up my own copy of the game (I had preordered at a different store). Did any EGers attend the AC2 midnight launch at your local stores? Please, post in the comments below. If you happen to have photos as well, use the Advanced Submission link above to upload them to the site, and we'll post them up.
