Economical Gamer's Fourth Anniversary Print
Content - Site News
Written by Anthony

Today marks the third time I've used this cheesy balloon image, which means that Economical Gamer is now celebrating it's fourth Birthday!

We try to make such occasions special around here. Whether its a new feature of the site or like this year, a much needed coat of paint.

In the short time we've been around the landscape of purchasing video games has changed dramatically. Digital distribution is now a glorious reality which has ironically lead to too much downlodable content, with missing endings and platform exclusive offers flustering many of us. Every title has a its own collector's edition and the consoles that sit on shelves barely resemble what was marketed during the "HD era" hype. Yes, things have changed.

Perhaps the biggest shift for us here in Australia would be the move towards importing. In times past it was for obtaining games that never arrived down under or to escape unbearable release dates (I don't want to recall the dark ages before global launch dates existed).

Today, with the strength of our currency and frequent censorship importing games has become commonplace. I've watched as the articles published on the site slowly changed in nature and find it fascinating how different the bargain sources are from the early days of Economical Gamer.

If you like you can join me in the reflection of a generation that has still yet to conclude in the forums. I'm sure many fellow gamers will want to share their sentiments too.

So a new design, is that all?

Affraid so. There are no confusing and controversial Twitter applications to fight with this year. Just a new design for the website and forum which hopefully fit each other more appropriately than the older pair. Some major behind the scenes work has also been done to the system that drives the site.

Plans for the future

The plans are really to continue to run the site as it has been. Continue the light-weight random roundups and to aggregate bargain data from every source imaginable, including our keen and observant community.

I've been putting thought into our "Web 1.0" type of content and what the next four years of internet evolution is going to do to user demands. Primarily in the direction of content that is user driven and social with concepts of how this implicates bargain hunting.

I don't tell the staff members around here anything so don't bother quizzing them. Something along the lines of my current plan doesn't currently exist and development of such software will be from scratch. It will take a long time if it ever becomes a reality (life gets in the way too much). In fact I doubt anyone will remember this paragraph when and if such a system ever sees the light of day ;)

Thank you to everyone

Many thanks to all those who have sent content in to the website, you are the reason I started this place. It is a home to share bargains and I've personally benefited from the information sent in. Special thanks to the staff and moderators of the site as well, you've gone that step further to write and publish content when I've been incapable or too slow to.

Naturally, thanks also goes to all the visitors who come by and click our advertisements (big hug) and to those stores that make the crew's life easier by delivering content to us in a manageable way.

I feel like this has gone on quite long enough. Time to end the article and start the discussions. Join us in the forum!
